Can Eating Healthfully Really Improve Your MEMORY Outlook?

Attain Your Full Potential | Food & Movement for Brain Health

We must approach our overall health holistically. (Holistic (definition): characterized by comprehension of the parts of something as intimately interconnected and explicable only by reference to the whole. Definition in terms of Medicine-- characterized by the treatment of the whole person, taking into account mental and social factors, rather than just the physical symptoms of a disease).

To not approach our overall health holistically is foolish and can be compared to replacing worn tires on our vehicle, not aligning and balancing them, and then wondering why the vehicle drives oddly and the new tire tread wore down so fast. See, one symptom can beget another and yet another and yet another. It is imperative to seek the source of symptoms and treat ourselves holistically.

In line with this, there are studies that suggest the right kinds of foods can help improve your memory and may even keep it intact when you age. So does this mean we not only have to pay attention to what we eat for our heart but for our brains too? The good news is the same diet that is good for your heart should carry over to your brain, and by extension, your memory.

The bad news (should you choose to see it as bad news) is if you aren’t already eating right, it’s going to take a bit of effort to make sure that you do. People develop bad eating habits from an early age. Now, before you go blaming your parents, keep in mind that more studies and research-based findings exist today than did during their younger years. Ironically, healthier-sourced, less-processed and untainted food existed more in your parents' day than today.

Nonetheless, your eating habits do need some time to change for the better, and you may need to find creative ways to prepare your healthy foods. If you are one to fry your foods, you have developed your flavor profile in this cooking style and cooking without it is going to seem light and not fulfilling. The opposite is also true. After a while, you will find the fried foods are too heavy and that the lighter, but healthier, foods not only fill you up but also keep you filled up, feeling satisfied and more energized.

So, even if you don’t believe that the foods you eat can affect your memory, hopefully you are well-convinced of eating well for your heart. And, as mentioned earlier, the foods that are good for your heart are the same ones that are good for your brain, for the most part. This means that if at some point in the future, you start believing that eating well helps your memory, you won’t have to start from scratch if you’ve been eating heart healthy. You’ll already be where you need to be.

The top 7 foods that are found to be best for your brain* are:

1. Tumeric

2. Wild Alaskan Salmon

3. Broccoli and Cauliflower

4. Walnuts

5. Celery

6. Coconut Oil

7. Blueberries

If you are worried about taste when it comes to any new food diet, there is good news with this, too. There are a plethora of cooking shows and free online information with the focus shifting on healthier diets. It’s been going on for some time, so the recipes and techniques you find are likely to be quite tasty. You can even find grocery stores, markets and restaurants now that are responding to the movement of healthier eating and healthier sources of food; all falling under the umbrella of what I call Conscious Eating.

Now, eating well is a great start, but you also need to exercise. To eat well then sit all day, every day, is not good for your overall health, either. A steady routine of exercise will boost any of the benefits you receive from your good eating habits. They both work together to give you the maximum benefits possible.

Two very beneficial, easy-to-fit-in-any-schedule exercise regimens are:

1. Give yourself the gift of a 30-minute walk 3x per week. You’ll feel yourself improving from the inside out very quickly: breathing deeper and fuller, clarity of mind, improved physical flexibility and more.

2. The 7-Minute Scientific Workout. Have you heard of this? Personally, I can’t stand the environment of a workout gym; the cardio machines, weight centers and stretching floors all look shiny and modern yet I find the smell is putrid and cleanliness leaves a lot to be improved in 90% of the gyms I’ve used and I have been able to use some of the best gyms, literally, around the world. The 7-Minute Workout (Reviewed by the Huffington Post here: https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/7-minute-hiit-workout-real_us_57366b46e4b060aa781a72e3) works! ANY space is your workout area: bedroom, hotel room, family room or office space. The incredible, easy App for your iPhone and iPad can be found here: https://itunes.apple.com/app/id653407949.
